Xbox Keeps Freezing! – Easily Fix it Yourself.

October 19th, 2011 5 comments

So far, I have mentioned some of the reasons why your Xbox keeps freezing, and the many things you can do to keep it cool. However, I also mentioned how easy it is to fix your Xbox 360 by yourself!

This really is the best option if none of the suggestions I mentioned earlier work and your warranty has expired. Now, the first thing I would like to say is DON’T PANIC! Even if you have no technical experience whatsoever, this is something anyone can do, provided they do it correctly.

As I mentioned earlier, the guide that I bought is amazing because of the high definition videos and the detailed step-by-step instructions. You really can’t go wrong, and to be honest, I think $30 is a small investment compared to what you could pay Microsoft and still get the problem again!

Just to clarify, the guide that I bought is the 3 red light fix by James Dean (not the actor of course!) The guide has been put together by professionals in the business and not by some amateurs. There are other guides on the market, but as I mentioned in another post, the hi-def videos are what set this one apart, and when it comes to repairing your own Xbox 360, you really need to see clearly what’s involved.

What I found really helpful while going through the videos is that the guy doing the repair talks you through everything he does, he explains how to do each part, so you not only see what to do but you also hear what to do which is really important if you want to get it right.

The range of problems the guide fixes is excellent. Not only does it cover the freezing problem and the Xbox 360 red ring of death, but also, the 2 red lights, distorted graphics and the E74 error.

Before I bought the guide, I did read some reviews and I checked out some testimonials just to be sure that it was the real deal. As it happens, this guide is the best selling one on the market and for obvious reasons.

If you haven’t already seen my video below, then check it out as I give a brief look at one of the instruction videos, and see for yourself just how easy it is to fix your Xbox 360.

How to Fix The Xbox 360 Freezing Problem Yourself!

October 18th, 2011 No comments

In the previous post, I mentioned how easy it is to fix the Xbox 360 yourself, and the best way you can do this is by investing in a professional Xbox 360 repair guide. Now I know what you are thinking! Why should you spend any money at all to fix a problem that is not your fault!

I agree. Unfortunately, if your warranty has expired, you are going to have to spend some money to get your Xbox fixed, or buy a new one! The good news is that these guides are not expensive, however, some are better than others. The best guide I can recommend is the one I bought for my own Xbox 360 which was about $30.

The really cool thing about this guide is that it doesn’t just consist of an ebook as many do, but it also comes with 8 high definition videos, and its the videos that really set this guide apart from the others.

Apart from the very high quality of the videos, the person guiding you through the whole process is a professional modder, so you can have full confidence that you will be able to successfully fix your Xbox 360 freezing problem.

Rather than talk any more about it, I thought it might be better to actually show you, which is why I made the video below.

I hope you enjoyed the video guys, and I also hope that you can now see that when your Xbox keeps freezing, you can easily fix it yourself by following a professional Xbox 360 repair guide.

My Xbox Keeps Freezing! – 7 Tips to Keep it Cool!

October 10th, 2011 No comments

One of the things that is often overlooked when a persons Xbox keeps freezing up on them is their environment! In other words, does your Xbox 360 have room to breath? This is very important because a lack of sufficient cooling will cause your Xbox to overheat, resulting in the freezing problem or the Xbox ring of death.

Here are 7 tips to help keep your Xbox 360 cool.

1.  Make sure that your Xbox has plenty of room all around and that nothing is blocking the vents.

2.  Make sure that it is sitting on a hard cool surface, not a carpet or tablecloth.

3.  Standing the Xbox on its side will allow more airflow to get around it.

4.  Keep it away from other devices that also give off heat and could be on at the same time, such as DVD players and Satellite boxes.

5.  Keep it away from direct sunlight or from radiators and heating vents.

6.  Using a small external fan near the vents should keep your Xbox 360 cool.

7.  Try limiting your game play to a couple of hours and then wait for a couple of hours before playing again.

The above tips should go a long way to helping you avoid the Xbox 360 freezing up on you. However, it is possible that none of the above suggestions may work. In that case, it could suggest that the Xbox freezing problems are hardware related. That being the case, there are a couple of options to consider.

The first option is that you could visit Microsoft’s support page and go through the screen freeze wizard. This will take you through several steps to identify if your Xbox 360 has a hardware problem. You simply need to select yes or no. Depending on your answers, you may find that Microsoft will recommend that your console needs a service and you will be prompted to submit an online repair request to get your Xbox fixed.

If your console is still under the warranty then you may decide that this is your best option, although you will have to wait between 12 and 18 days to get it back and for some this has been much longer! The bad news is that if your warranty has expired then not only will you have to wait that long but you will also have to pay Microsoft’s out-of-warranty repair fee which as of this writing is over $100!

As you can imagine, most Xbox 360 owners have been very upset and angry over this, especially as it is not their fault that the Xbox 360 keeps freezing, and so they have decided to take a much quicker and cheaper option and do the repair themselves!

You may be wondering at this point though whether or not you feel capable of repairing your own Xbox 360! Well, don’t worry about it, as I will discuss very soon, you will see how easy it is to fix your own Xbox and save a ton of cash in the process!

The Xbox 360 Freezing Fix – Be Carefull!

October 7th, 2011 1 comment

As discussed in the previous post, there are several reasons why your Xbox keeps freezing. However, it could be that none of the solutions I listed earlier may work, and this is because the Xbox 360 freezing problem could be due to an overheating issue that has caused literally tens of thousands of Xbox 360 owners to pull their hair out in frustration!

This overheating problem can manifest itself in several ways such as displaying 3 flashing red lights also known as the red ring of death, the E74 Xbox error, and of course when the Xbox freezes up which I have dedicated this site around. If you did a search online you would find an almost unending supply of websites offering all sorts of “solutions” and “fixes” for the Xbox 360 freezing up. However, you need to be careful! Here are just a few that I would strongly advise you to stay clear of!

  • The Towel Trick

Yes, you read it right! How could towels possible fix the freezing problem? Well, believe it or not, many have tried this trick with devastating results to their Xbox 360! In fact they have destroyed it by basically frying the motherboard using this method! I am not going to explain how the towel trick works because It can be very dangerous, and it only works for a short time anyway. My advice is to avoid it like the plague!

  • The Penny Trick

I know, this sounds almost as crazy as the last one, but once again, many have tried it with little success. It is not anywhere near as dangerous as the towel trick but it does have its risks! The penny trick involves stacking 4 sets of pennies under the 4 RAM chips on the Xbox 360 motherboard. The idea behind this is to create more breathing room for the motherboard and keep the RAM chips firmly in place. This may work for a short while but it does not solve the root problem! In many cases it does not work at all. Again, this is one to avoid because you could damage your Xbox during the process or even afterward!

  • The Ice Bath

It doesn’t get any crazier than this I can tell you. The very mention of using water to fix the Xbox 360 should cause you to repel at the thought of it. Putting your Xbox into an ice cold bath of water and then letting it dry outside has disaster written all over it! Enough said about this method!

I am sure you can clearly see the need to avoid trying any of the methods above not only due to the danger involved, but because ultimately, none of those methods will fix the Xbox freezing problem permanently. The thought of being able to solve the problem for free is appealing. After all, why should you pay Microsoft to fix a problem that is really their fault! Unfortunately, these problems usually happen after the warranty has expired on your Xbox, and even if it hasn’t, many are just not prepared to wait up to a month for Microsoft to send them a replacement. Is there a better and quicker solution? There most definitely is as I will discuss in a future post.

Xbox Keeps Freezing – Game Over?

August 1st, 2011 No comments

There can be nothing more frustrating than when your Xbox keeps freezing right in the middle of a game, even worse if you were playing online! Hours have passed by as you were completely engrossed and oblivious to anything else. Now you wake up to the full realization that the game is over!

Is it really game over?

Well, the game you were playing is over, but what about the Xbox 360? Is there anything you can do to solve the problem, or are you going to have to get a new console?! No doubt you are asking “why does my Xbox keep freezing up on me?” This is probably not the first time this has happened to you, but don’t despair, the problem CAN be fixed. First though, you need to understand some of the reasons WHY your Xbox keeps freezing up on you.

Reasons Why the Xbox 360 keeps freezing!

  • The simplest reason could be a scratched or damaged disk! If your Xbox keeps freezing ONLY when you are playing a certain game, then that is a tell-tale sign of a scratched or damaged disk. If this is the case then the first thing you need to do is switch your console off and take the disk out, then try another game. If you no longer get the Xbox freezing up, then you’ve solved the problem. As for the damaged disk, there are plenty of good cleaning kits available that can remove the scratches and clean the disk. Just do a search on Google.
  • If your Xbox 360 keeps freezing up only when you are online, then it could be a problem with your connection! Make sure your cables are connected properly, or if you’re connected wirelessly, then check the dongle and your router settings. You also need to make sure that you have a filter connected to every phone socket in your house because this can interfere with your connection if one is missing and your phone rings!
  • The hard drive cache could be the culprit! The cache on your hard drive stores temporary data while you are playing, however, this can get corrupted and the results can be choppy game play, lags and of course, freezing! The good news is that the cache can be cleared and is quite simple to do and it wont effect any of your game saves, profiles etc. The first step is to go into the Xbox 360 dashboard and select system settings, then memory. If you only have 1 storage unit then this will already be highlighted in green and it will give you details such as drive name and free space left. Now press Y to view the device options screen. On this screen you will see 4 options. The 3rd option is ‘clear system cache’. Select it and you will then be informed that your Xbox will perform system maintenance. Now select yes. It should only take a couple of seconds to clear the cache, afterwards just reboot the console and hopefully you should not only have solved the Xbox 360 freezing problem but you will also notice a performance increase.
  • The Xbox 360 hard drive could also be responsible for the freezing problem! Now to see if the hard drive is causing the problem, switch off your Xbox and remove the hard drive. Now play on your Xbox for about a week and see if your Xbox freezes. Obviously you wont be able to save any game data unless you buy a memory card, but this will help you to see if the hard drive was causing you any problems. If after a week, everything is OK then I would recommend transferring all your data to the memory card and formatting the hard drive using the format option in the system menu.
